BEGINNER SURF LESSONS AT ALA MOANA BOWLS AREA, WAIKIKI

Aloha, I will show you the art of surfing as my Hawaiian ancestors did 100 years ago. We will meet at Ala Moana Bowls Parking Lot (on the edge of Waikiki) which features free parking at one of Oahu's best surf spots, We’ll suit up (Kimo provides all the gear you need), wax our surfboards and head down to the shoreline. Kimo will select a surfboard perfectly matched to your size and experience level. As you progress he will adjust board size and style to support your journey to becoming a real surfer. You will get a 10 minute beach lesson on standing, riding, and water safety.. Lifeguard first aid certified, Hawaii Surf Guru is Permitted by the State of Hawaii to teach surfing safely at the Ala Wai Boat Harbor State Recreation Area. Then you are up and surfing! Kimo is experienced, funny, friendly and knowledgeable- When he takes you to the lineup, you get respect. Locals know Kimo and they know he is teaching newbies. They also know that when Kimo yells paddle, they might as well give up that wave because his students are "going"...So when you go out with Kimo, you GO!

INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED SURF LESSONS 

Kimo says: Aloha, I will teach how to become a better surfer. You will learn how and where to paddle out in the channel away from surfers riding down the line. As we sit in the lineup, I will show you how to read incoming set waves and let you know which one to pick and catch. We can work on your paddling technique, your timing as far as when to take off and the angle you take off at. You will learn to take off at the top of the wave and drive your surfboard down to the bottom of the wave and then back up to the lip. Now you are moving down the line! Back down on your board and paddle out in the channel, allowing the rip to help you back out to the lineup. 

In an advanced lesson you will learn how to use the ocean to your advantage in the correct way. If "hanging ten" with your toes on the nose of your surfboard is your deepest desire then I will help you to learn. How about "drop-knee"- is this your fancy? It's the classic old-school way to turn your surfboard, and Kimo can show you how. Any and all of the techniques you want to learn in surfing I can teach you. The art of surfing can be all you want it to be. Bottom line? Surf good, surf happy, and make yourself proud! Happy surfing ahead!

Hawaiian Standup Paddle and Paddle Surfing is the latest, greatest Hawaiian water sport; the popularity of standup paddle surfing has exploded over the past 7 years. 

The Hawaiians in olden days would use a standup paddleboard to travel from village to village as a means to transport their food and supplies to share. Today we are standup paddling to explore various waterways, travel across oceans and rivers, and surf in waves of all sizes. Is is a great cardiovascular workout, which each one of us needs on a daily basis to be healthy. More importantly, in addition to using all of your muscles from head to toe, you are outdoors in nature. 

You will experience peace of mind and awaken your spirit to the great outdoors...we believe as Hawaiians that the ocean is the cleanser to your soul; we live this way to be in harmony with nature. In today's modern world, "STRESS" is the underlying cause of many health problems- Exercising in sync with nature is the most ideal way to be One with the Hawaiian style of living.
